THE CHALLENGE
Galeco’s advanced CCTV cameras only gather images once a camera has been activated, for example, when motion is detected or been triggered by an event. These images are fed back to Galeco’s system and to Galeco’s CCTV monitoring centre in Reading, where Galeco will react to the activation with the necessary response. In order for the images from its CCTV cameras to be streamed in real time, Galeco needed a fail-safe network with the ability to scale bandwidth up and down as required. Galeco also supports multiple sites therefore a system which is hosted on the internet with storage and back-up facilities was critical.

THE SOLUTION
Galeco selected Vialtus Solutions to host its web portals and monitoring platform. Hosted in Vialtus’ Server Bank™ facility in Manchester (a de-commissioned Bank of England vault), the Galeco solution has an extremely high level of physical security and resilience. Underneath this physical infrastructure, Vialtus Solutions runs a Cisco ASA firewall, which is managed by its dedicated security team. The managed hosting solution from Vialtus comprises two large servers – one web and one database – with 4Mbps of internet bandwidth and an additional two lots of 100Mbps available as required. This ensures hours of camera footage from multiple locations can be easily transmitted. Vialtus Solutions provides Galeco with a fully managed operating system and hardware service to maximise server uptime. Galeco also benefits from a managed data recovery service, which backs up server content daily onto storage media for Vialtus Solutions to restore as and when requested by authorised Galeco personnel.

THE RESULTS
With over 30Gb of data to stream every night from over 1,000 cameras, Galeco has been able to ensure 100 per cent uptime of its servers thanks to Vialtus Solutions, with its CCTV footage hosted and backed-up efficiently. Galeco has previously not been able to give this level of guarantee to its customers until now. The security provided by the Vialtus Solutions data centre and firewall helps to ensure Galeco meets all levels of legislative and regulatory data security requirements. With Vialtus Solutions, Galeco has been able to expand its network to meet its growing needs as a company and also now has the flexibility to up its bandwidth whenever required.
