THE CHALLENGE
With a wide variety of events, conferences and entertainment on offer, the team at the Barbican Centre needed to ensure that they had an efficient IT system in place for staff to work effectively and for customers to book tickets online. Staff at the centre were also moving to a temporary location and needed internet connectivity to be provided with minimal disruption.

THE SOLUTION
Vialtus Solutions was chosen to provide the Barbican Centre with a 100Mb ethernet connection with 10Mb bandwidth and back-up service to provide internet access into the Centre. A fully managed hosting service provides a robust and resilient solution, located in Vialtus’ highly secure Harbour Exchange data centre. Load balanced servers ensure maximum availability of the Centre’s website, even at busy periods. Two web and database servers are also part of the solution, providing the Barbican Centre with a reliable and efficient online ticket booking service. In order to meet the needs of the staff changing sites, Vialtus implemented a point to point ethernet connection between the two locations to ensure that no loss of service occurred and connectivity was maintained. Managed 24/7x365, the Vialtus solution also includes managed firewalls at the hosted site and at the Barbican Centre head office, ensuring maximum security at all times.

THE RESULTS
Since implementing the Vialtus solution, the Barbican Centre has seen numerous benefits for both staff and customers. One of the key advantages has been the flexibility of the solution, as bandwidth can be upgraded as and when it is needed. The resilience of the system has also been key, as maximum uptime of the Centre’s website is critical.
